Summary: good starter scope

This telescope is not as bad as the other reviews make it out to be. Yes the directions it it comes with ARE ment for this telescope. On the directions it says"DS-2000 reflecting and refracting telescopes with #497 Autostar". This indicates that these directions do not have the name of the telescope on it, but it does indicate that this telescope is ONLY ONE IN A SERIES OF TELESCOPES.

The other reviews are right about the tracking and go to, it is pretty bad if you do not program you lattitude and longitude. However if you cant find those coordinates and autostar is rendered useless tis is a good thing. This makes you learn the sky the old-fasion way. Yes this is good.

I do like the tripod, it is sturdy if YOU CARE FOR IT. Its like evey thing else, if do not treat it with care it will break. The tripod is constructed out of a type of alluminum for strength and light wieght. thats a good thing.

Last but not least BEFORE YOU GET A TELESCOPE please take the thime to learn the constellations and to navigate the night sky. Believe me it will help you, i wish i had.

I hope this refiew has helped you with this incredibly hobby, passion, or obssesion.
